The Cents Room
The Cents Room in Siauliai University Library (Vytauto str. 84, 208) was officially inaugurated on February 16, 2015, commemorating the Day of Lithuanian Independence. The attendees tied golden ribbons around the towns and cities marked on the map of Lithuania and presented a Cross of Vytis composed of silver Litas coins which functioned during the interwar period.
On February 24, 2015 the creators of the Cents Room were given a tricolour national flag by the President of the Republic of Lithuania. They were rewarded for the unique idea and innovativeness in their approach of saying goodbye to the national currency Litas and commemorating the 16th of February. The LT Presidential award was taken by prof. D. Jurgaitis, Rector of Siauliai University, and G. Lamanauskienė, director of SU Library, and Ž. Bagūnaitė, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Education, SU, and the designer V. Puronas.
The project of the CENTS ROOM was initiated and the installation organized by the Siauliai Union of Non-governmental Organization (SANOS) (lead by Gedeminas Vyšniauskas).
The Cents Room was installed using 157.130 coins, total vale – 3 463.69 LT (1003.15 €).
